We have a serious weed bloom at the pond. This is going to jeopardize the June race. We need everyone to work on a solution NOW. Please contact Matt or myself and let us know how you can help.

With a large weed problem, you will need to turn the retrieve boat into a lawn mower. Dragging something is an option, but there is a good chance you will lose pulling power when the weeds get caught up in the propeller, since you have to drive through the weeds before cutting them. I tried pulling a chain device with my boat a few years back and had this problem. It all depends on the weed type. What I was going to do, but never did, was to design something that mounts on the front of the retrieve boat. It would mount rigid. It could be a sturdy U-shaped device that has a taunt cutting cable attached to the two legs that go into the water. I would only go about 1 foot or so under the water. There is no need to pull the whole weed, just cut the tops. You pull the whole weed and there is more of a mess floating in the pond. Do this early enough so that there is a windy day before the race and the weeds will drift to the shore line and most likely stay there.

The hope for Carey Lake is that the weeds will die back in July and at that point we will see if it is feasible to schedule a race. Thanks for your patient.
